FENCERS · WELLINGTON

Fencers in Wellington

Wellington is hills, wind and old timber houses, and every one of those changes what a job costs — steps instead of a driveway, no parking outside, and weather that finds any gap in a building. Say where you are, from the city to the Hutt or the Kapiti Coast, and NovaPay asks businesses working there.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT HERE

Hiring fencers in Wellington

Wind decides what survives, salt decides what corrodes, and steep sections decide what it costs to get equipment to the work. Tree work on a hill site is priced by access, not by the tree.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Does a Wellington business cover the Hutt and Kapiti?
Many do, but the further ends of the region carry travel time and it shows in the quote. NovaPay asks businesses covering your end first — the Kapiti Coast in particular is served by its own trades rather than by the city.
Why do Wellington quotes ask about access and steps?
Because they are most of the labour. Carrying materials up sixty steps or working off a boundary with no parking is genuinely a different job to the same work on a flat Hamilton section, and a quote that ignores it is the one that gets revised on the day.
Does my neighbour have to pay half?
For a boundary fence in New Zealand the Fencing Act 1978 generally allows you to seek half from the adjoining owner, but only if you follow the notice process before starting. Talk to them, and put it in writing, before you accept a quote.
What makes pool fencing different?
It has to meet a specific standard and is inspected by the council, covering height, gaps, gate self closing and what can be climbed near it. Say it is a pool fence in your request so only people who do compliant work are asked.
How much does fencing cost per metre?
It moves with material and ground more than anything: a straight run on flat, soft ground is a different job from a sloping site with rock or clay. Say what the ground is like and the quotes come back closer to final.
Do I need a consent?
Usually not for an ordinary boundary fence under two metres, but retaining walls over a certain height and pool fencing are different. A fencer who works in your area will know the council's line.
